Shadows In A Timeless Myth
Six Sentence Sunday Excerpt
Rebecca stood in the upper hallway, trembling in shock--the repeated assaults on the front door slammed through the house like rolling thunder. Then a flash of lightning showed her two small grandsons huddled in their bed clinging together in fright, and the trembling stopped.
Her heart wrung at the picture; but swelled three times and more with sudden courage. More than anything on earth she wanted to run to them, hold them, comfort them, and tell them it was just a bad dream. But she didn’t trust herself to be able to let go once she had their sweet warm presence in her arms.
She ordered them to stay put, twisted the inside lock with a fervent prayer and slammed their door without entering the room.
